The ending is the last thing readers remember. Learn how to close your story with feeling — not a summary.
Think about the last story you really liked. Maybe a book. Maybe a short story your teacher read aloud. Maybe a video you watched.
What stayed with you? Not usually the middle. Not the details. Not even the lead.
Most readers remember how a story made them feel at the end.
That last moment. That final sentence. That quiet thought that lingered after you finished reading.
The ending of a feature story is your last chance to make readers feel something. Don't waste it.
A strong feature ending does at least one of these four things.
Weak endings usually do one of three things: they stop too suddenly with no reflection, they summarize everything like a school essay conclusion, or they add brand new information that should have come earlier.
"That is the story of Zion and how he never gave up."
That's not an ending. That's giving up.
"In conclusion, Ziah is a hardworking student who helps her lola and loves her community."
That's a report card comment — not a feature ending.
